      Description

The use of user search and naming attribute has caused and continues to cause issues in a number of places in the authentication process.
We should look into the possibility of removing or reworking theseĀ  attributes to enableĀ  correct profile lookup.

The FRaaS team is also having issues with the current user_id, username confusion (FRAAS-861), so it would be really beneficial if we could revisit how users are being looked up, and how authentication takes part in this overall process.

I think the general direction should be that the authentication modules should return the user's unique identifier, so that profile can be looked up reliably. Alias search attributes in that scenario will no longer serve any value, as the authentication framework would always expect the same attribute's value being returned for the data store lookup. In this scenario we should aim to remove the alias search attribute.
