ldapmodify does all changes present in an LDIF file in a sequential manner, on a single connection.
When it is known that the data contained in the LDIF file represents a unique update per entry (i.e. the same DN doesn't appear twice in the LDIF), one might want to run parallel operations on the same connection or multiple connections (similar to what we do with modrate), in order to speed up the bulk updates.
Customers use cases include:
- nightly bulk update from database dumps and diffs
- update to a large set of entries in the directory to add a new attribute and value, or change an existing value. The set of entries to update would be built from a search request.
