At present, service accounts like those of administrators in setup profiles use simple username+password binds to authenticate. Passwords are stored on the userPassword attribute by value, and the data is in a database backend.
In a DevOps deployment, the account password can be different in each environment. It would be helpful in that context to be able to store the password values by reference to avoid having to update each service account password in each environment after deployment.
