In the description below, the term "backup storage" will be used to describe both a file system directory or a cloud storage.
With the new dsbackup tool, a backup is no longer stored as an individual archive but is instead made of several files. If a backup storage contains multiple backups, there is no convenient way to find out which files correspond to which backup, this makes it very difficult to copy only one or more backups from a backup storage to another location.
This may be a limitation when admins attempt to do one of the following:
- Move only one or more backups from one directory to another data center in order to restore them in the other data center.
- Instead of purging old backups, move them to a cheaper cloud storage like Google archive storage for example.
This issue can be closed once there is a simple way to copy one or more backups from a backup storage to another location.
