A while ago when the OpenDJ project was open source, you could get the SDK using Maven, https://backstage.forgerock.com/docs/opendj/2.6/dev-guide/#use-maven . Although it wasn't specifically documented, you could get the examples that way, too.
Today, the SDK examples would be easier for people outside ForgeRock to try if they were bundled with the toolkit, especially if they were bundled as a Maven project with a POM.
Perhaps the developer would have to use mvn first to install .jar(s) in the local repo (if not deployed to their own centralized repo) before being able to import the project. But after that, they could get started quickly, either reading additional doc or not.
