      Description

Currently the only scripting language we support within Activiti workflow tasks is groovy. This is unfortunate, since we also support/encourage the use of embedded handlebars templates for Activiti form generation, and these forms likely will have their own embedded JavaScript logic for various things (most significantly, client-side validation rules). Often times, very similar logic will need to be defined on the server side, so things like validation rules cannot be circumvented by a malicious user who might have disabled client-side checks. Having to re-write the validation rules in groovy instead of being able to reuse the same code that was used on the client side is a serious maintenance problem. In addition, requiring a different language for tasks requires workflow developers to be familiar with two very similar scripting languages in order to do anything meaningful.

OpenIDM uses JavaScript for customer extensibility everywhere else in the system; not having it within workflow tasks is a jarring inconsistency.
